Unite the Class of 2024!
Lake County’s First Grade Parents Committee hosted their first event – a free open gym for students last Friday, Jan. 11 at West Park Elementary (WPE) School. According to organizers, the committee was created to unite First Graders – The Class of 2024 – by providing parent-sponsored activities and events that are fun and free. For those who may not know, first grade classes are split between Pitts Elementary and West Park Elementary, a unique situation within the Lake County School District.
The committee has a great cross section of volunteer parents, both English and Spanish speaking, representing both schools. They have adopted the following mission statement : “Maintain the cohesiveness of the first grade class during the school year of 2012-2013, for the benefit of the students through unique/special activities which engage students and/or parents of the class.”First grade students had fun at the open gym!
The Lake County’s First Grade Parents Committee’s next event is the First Grade Skate Night to be held at the Lake County Ice Rink on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. The Lake County Recreation Department has generously agreed to provide free admission and skate rental for WPE first graders.
If you are a parent of a Lake County first grader and are interested in participating, please give your name and contact information to Bunny at West Park (719-486-6890) or Lynette at Pitts (719-486-6920).Lake County’s First Grade Parents Committee having fun with the hula-hoops!
