Like NEVER Before: A Piece of The Rock(s)!
Just when you think there can’t be any more history added to Leadville’s premier historic event. Just when you think you’ve heard all the Boom Days stories ever told. Just when you think you’re seen it all . . . there’s arrives an historic first, at least as far as anyone could recall.
No, you’re not seeing double; there are TWO Boom Days Rocks.
A “Double On The Rocks” might usually be a Boom Days drink order, but this year it’s an historic first for the mining events.Mining Events Co-Coordinator Dom Patti explains:
“The original rock we had split into two pieces. They were slinging it and loading it on Monday and they wanted to bust some of it off because it was a really big rock.” And that’s when the one became two! So how will things work with TWO Boom Days rocks?
Patti explains, “The teams will be drilling on the smaller rock and singles will be drilling on the bigger rock – that way we’ll have enough room for all the drillers.” No doubt it’ll just double the fun for competitors and spectators!
“That’s the way it goes!” concluded Dom Patti. And certainly one for the history books!
Kudos to the Public Works crew! Be sure to buy them a “Double on the Rocks”Every year there’s a friendly side bet among the crew that brings the rock down from the Climax Mine. How much does the rock(s) weigh? What’s your guess?
