Pbville Racing Team Crashes into Cycling Season
The Pbville Pedalers are back for a new season under a new name: The Pbville Racing Team. The high school cycling team had their first race at Snow Mountain Ranch near Winter Park on Sunday, Sept. 8. It was hard not to notice the increased popularity of the sport, as there were over 450 riders from 20 teams competing in the race.Pbville Racing Team (left to right): D.J. Gonzales, Darian Fairclough, Cheyenne Mendoza, Brandon Hanson, Federico Montes, Terell Sandoval, Grant Gipson, Cain Gipson, Aarika Johnson, Charlie Koch, Stephanie Colton and Lara Lufkin.
Here’s the Coach’s report by Stacy Kelly:
No race results were available due to a wicked thunderstorm that ended the race prematurely. And the team is already suffering some injuries. Charlie Koch crashed Saturday on the pre-ride and broke his collar bone. Hope to have him back for the last two races of the season. Lara Lufkin crashed last Thursday and is still recovering so didn’t race.
The Pbville Racing Team is planning a fund raiser for this Sunday, Sept. 15. The team will be leading a fall color Mtn. Bike ride on Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m. at High Mountain Pies, 15 w. 4th Street. The ride will be approximately 2-2.5 hours in the Iowa Gulch, Long and Derry, Empire Gulch area. We will return to High Mountain Pies for Pizza and sodas sponsored by Tim and Vicki Koch. There is no cost, however donations of any amount to support the team are gladly accepted.
The Pbville Racing Team is also hosting the 2nd of 4 races for the season on Sunday, Sept. 22 at Colorado Mountain College in Leadville. The races will begin at 10 a.m. and the race is expecting between 450-500 riders that day. Anyone who is interested in supporting the team by volunteering can sign up online at:
