CMC Invites You to ‘Get Down’ with Author TONIGHT
Colorado Mountain College (CMC) students and members of the public are invited to hear Mishna Wolff, author of “I’m Down,” tonight at 7 p.m. in the Climax Building on the Leadville campus.
The public readings are part of the college’s seventh annual Common Reader program. Wolff, who is also an actress and comic, will share excerpts from her memoir, “I’m Down.”
Wolff’s frank and funny memoir inspires laughter and invites questions about the meaning of race in America. The author grew up in a poor African-American neighborhood, attended an elite white school and struggled to belong in both worlds. Painfully shy and decidedly uncool, Wolff relied on searing wit, sarcastic banter and sheer grit to blaze a trail through middle school and beyond.
Copies of the book are available at local libraries and bookstores, and community members are encouraged to read “I’m Down” and share their thoughts. The college is also sponsoring an art and creative writing contest, with cash prizes for six winners. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 29.
