Poker Walk or Miner’s Ball – Love at 10,200 feet
Well, the big day of love is tomorrow! Are you ready? Well if you haven’t made any plans yet for you and your sweetie this weekend, here are some options, in typical Leadville fashion: from one end of the spectrum to the other!
The Valentine’s Day Poker Walk will be held Friday, Feb. 14. The event is sponsored by District 11 of ABATE of Colorado. The event kicks off at the Silver Dollar Saloon on Harrison Avenue where teams will draw their first cards.
For those who may not be familiar with this type of fundraiser, teams must visit checkpoints, drawing a playing card at each one. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the walk. Other stations on the walk include The Pastime, The Tennessee Pass Café, The Scarlet Tavern and The Manhattan Bar.
So pull on your winter boots for a downtown stroll. Oh, and don’t forget that lucky rabbit’s foot to sharpen your edge for all those prizes. Locally, folks can contact Bobbie Adams for more details: bobbieadams1@msn.com.
ABATE (A Brotherhood Active Towards Education) of Colorado is a non-profit motorcyclists’ rights organization dedicated to preserving individual freedom and promoting safety. To find out more, visit their website: LINK.
On the other side of the coin, if you’re wardrobe is more lace than leather, there’s the Miner’s Ball held Saturday, Feb. 15 at the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. While the dinner part of the evening is closed out, guests are welcome to attend the Open House and Tasting, entertainment and dancing! Folks will be coiffed in their Victorian finest and the wine flows among friends. The Mining Museum setting makes for a great venue and a good opportunity to see recent updates at the facility.
