Deadline for Health Care Coverage is Monday
The sand in the hourglass is running low. But if you don’t have health insurance, there is still time to enroll through the public marketplaces created by the Affordable Care Act. But don’t delay too long: The deadline for obtaining coverage for this year is March 31; that’s Monday.
After that uninsured Coloradoans cannot get commercial coverage until 2015 unless they have special circumstances, such as losing a job that provided coverage or moving to the state. As long as a customer has submitted an application for financial assistance by March 31, 2014, Connect for Health will honor that date and support the customer to determine eligibility for health coverage to be effective May 1, 2014.
The next open enrollment period will be Nov 15, 2014 to February 15, 2015. Coloradoans can apply for Medicad and Child Health Plan Plus at any point during the year.
There is a federal penalty for people who don’t have health insurance in 2014.
