Lizardos Receive Support, More Efforts Underway
In the early morning hours of May 30, a fire broke out at the Mountain View West Trailer Park claiming the life of 10-year-old Marc Lizardo and destroying his family’s home and all of their possessions.
Since then, the Lake County community has shown an out-pouring of support, and established a variety of ways that people can provide assistance and support to the Lizardo family.
The following information was provided to Leadville Today by a representative of the Lizardos concerning the family’s memorial and remembrance plans for Marc.
Monday, June 8 the family will be hosting a potluck gathering at the 6th Street Gym from 4 – 7 p.m. This child-focused gathering will be a celebration of Marc’s life with a family-friendly, festive atmosphere. June 8 would have been Marc’s 11th birthday, so the afternoon will include games and a piñata! Community members are invited. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share for the potluck. They need help setting up from 2 – 4 p.m. and clean up from 7 – 9 p.m.
Next Thursday, June 11 there will be a vigil for Marc Lizardo at Annunciation Church in Leadville, starting at 7 p.m. This will include prayer and remembrance for Marc and the family. Afterward the family will be providing sweet bread and atole in the Holy Family Parish Hall located next door.
The next day, Friday, June 12, there will be a memorial Mass at 2 p.m. at Annunciation Church, followed by a small reception in the Parish Hall where the family will be serving sweet bread and atole, a traditional Mexican hot masa-based beverage.
The Lizardo family wanted to express their sincere gratitude of the outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss.
