Rky Mtn Bicycle Tour in Leadville Today, Tomorrow
The 9th Annual Colorado Rocky Mountain Bicycle Tour (CRMBT) will be coming through Leadville and Lake County today and tomorrow (August 4 & 5).
Today, August 4 is Day 3, taking the cyclists from Breckenridge to Leadville, via Vail Pass and Battle Mountain. Leaving Breckenridge riders will skirt Dillon Reservoir via the great bike path to Frisco and over to Copper Mountain and then up over Vail Pass at 10,617 feet and then down to Vail. After Vail the tour picks up US Highway 24 through Minturn and then up to Tennessee Pass that tops out at 10,443 feet. Riders will pass Camp Hale, the historic home to the famous 10th Mountain Division before cruising into Leadville.
The tour continues tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 5, starting in Leadville and ending in Glenwood Springs via Independence Pass and Aspen. Day 4 is the high point for the Colorado Rocky Mountain Bicycle Tour, going over Independence Pass at 12,170 feet.
The seven days of great riding in the Colorado Rocky Mountains begins and ends in Gunnison, Colorado. The CRMBT is a fully supported ride. The 500 cyclists and support crew have options for local hotels and camping, and are provided a private traveling caterer for their meals – hopefully some will opt for some great Leadville grub while they’re here and pump some money into the local economy! Have fun, be safe and welcome to Leadville cyclists!
