Library’s Annual Used Book Sale This Fri. & Sat.
This Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18 & 19, the Friends of Lake County Public Library will hold their annual Book Sale in Leadville’s 6th Street Gym from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Books will be sold two pounds for a dollar. Hundreds of boxes of books were donated to the sale by the community.
According to the Lake County Public Library’s website, the Friends of Library raise money that enables the library to move from good to great, providing the resources for additional programming, much needed equipment, the children’s summer reading program and special events throughout the year.
The work of the Friends highlights on an on-going basis the fact that the library is the cornerstone of the community providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of life-long learning and connect with the thoughts and ideas of others from ages past to the present. Members of the Friends understand the critical importance of well funded libraries and advocate to ensure that the library gets the resources it needs to provide a wide variety of services to all ages including access to print and electronic materials, along with expert assistance in research, readers’ advisory, and children’s services.
The Friends’ time and commitment to the library set an example for all in how volunteerism leads to positive civic engagement and the betterment of the community. For more information: CLICK
Saturday Fundraiser Benefits Sondalicious Resident
Also this Saturday, Sept. 19 there will be a benefit Yard and Bake Sale in the Leadville Elks Lodge parking lot (100 block of east 4th Street) from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for former Leadville resident and Elks’ member Sondy Pentecost who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and now resides in Texas. Her Leadville friends and lodge members will raise money at the sale to help Sondy offset medical and out-of-work costs associated with her treatment.
Many Lake County residents remember Sondy as a cook in the local schools (Miss Sondy!), as well as wait staff and bartender at local saloons/cafes. Take care and get well, Sondalicious! All the rest of you head on over to the sale from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Elks!
