LVL hosted Last Chance Qualifier Competition
By Ben Wells, Leadville Lifters Coach
On Saturday, May 21st, Leadville Lifters Olympic Weightlifting Club hosted the Last Chance Qualifier Competition at Lake County High School. This was a small competition to allow first time competitors from LVL and Crossfit 10-2 to compete. There were several Youth LVL Athletes that were attempting to make the cut for Youth Nationals and this was their last chance.
Competing from Crossfit 10-2 was Kayla Marcella and Adam Olson. This was Marcella second competition and she went 6 for 6 with a Snatch of 30KG and a Clean and Jerk of 50KG, for a total of 80KG. Olson had a total of 199KG between the two lifts.
Of the 6 Youth LVL Athletes, 3 were competing for the 1st time; Madyson Blamey, Brayhan Reveles, and Christian Luna. With this being their first time out the focus was to get a total by successfully completing at least one of each lift. Blamey did just that and better, she went 6 for 6 as well and totaled 60KG, which is enough for a spot at Youth Nationals. Reveles went 4 for 6 with a total of 118, which also earn him a spot at Youth Nationals. Luna stepped up and earn a total of 86KG, which is awesome for his first time on the competition platform.
Other Youth LVL athletes, Brain Martinez, Cassidy Cecil, and Grey Finnell stepped up in great ways as well on the competition platform. This was Martinez second competition and he set a personal record with a 65KG on the platform. Cecil set a new personal best in her total with 74KG. Finnell also hit a personal best on the Clean and Jerk with a total of 100KG.
All of the athletes did great and had fun at the competition. The next competition that LVL is hosting is Saturday August 6th, during Boom Days. To donate to the LVL Athletes that are going to Youth Nationals in Austin Texas visit their GOFundMe page.
