MTB High School Racers Near Season Finish Line
Leadville Racing High School Mountain Bike Team traveled to Granby Ranch in the Frasier Valley on September 24 for the 3rd race in the Colorado High School Cycling League series. According to Coach Bruce Kelly, Leadville racers continued their march towards qualifying for the state championships with four riders solidifying their spot in the championships.

Leadville Racing High School Mountain Bike Team cyclist Cheyenne Mendoza finishes 18th place finish in the men’s varsity race in Granby, qualifying for the State Championship in Eagle on October 23.
Cheyenne Mendoza finished 18th place in the men’s varsity race, and Bryan Reveles and Cain Gipson finished 15th and 16th respectively in the JV men’s race. Freshmen Matt Koch came in at 50th place in the men’s race. These performances secured these four riders spots in the championships.
Both Brandon Hanson and Jan Birk are currently inside the qualifying numbers but both need to ride well and have a good finish at the last race, to secure their position, explained Coach Kelly. The Chalk Creek Stampede is in Nathrop on October 8. The Leadville Racing High School Mountain Bike Team remains in 15th place over all, but looks to improve on this position at the Nathrop course, a track they have excelled on in the past.
“All in all it was a good weekend at Granby,” said Coach Kelly. “The riders look forward to two weeks of hard training before heading to Nathrop.”
