Leadville’s Summertime News from the Steeples
The Women of Hope Ladies Group will be sponsoring a Yard & Bake Sale on Saturday, June from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and on Sunday, June 4 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in front of Annunciation Church. All proceeds will benefit Holy Family Parish in Leadville. The Ladies next meeting is Sunday, June 11 after the 9 a.m. Mass.
The Leadville Parish includes the historic Annunciation Church and St. Joseph’s Church, both of which are undergoing remodeling and historic renovation efforts. Click on the perspective church for more details on their stories.
There is a Youth Camp being offered at Cornerstone Church June 19 – 23, and according to Leadville Pastor Jason Horning, “We will take students right up until the bus leaves!”
Cornerstone has two locations, in Leadville and Buena Vista. The Youth Camp will be held at the BV location, taking students by bus. This is a daily camp program from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. with the bus leaving Leadville earlier. The Cornerstone Church in Leadville is located at 117 E. 6th Street, across from the 6th Street Gym. There are Youth Camp scholarships available, and check this out – they actually make the kids work to earn the scholarships! Students can help a neighbor with simple yard work or household chores at a $10/hour rate to help defray the cost of the camp. Now that’s a youth program that promotes responsibility and hard work instead of handouts and freebies.
In addition, Cornerstone Church will be having at Yard Sale to help defray some of the costs of the Youth Camp. On June 9 and 10 at the BV campus (205 South San Juan Ave. ) from 8 a.m. – noon! You can drop off donations starting June 4. They will take all donations except adult clothes. All proceeds go towards overall cost of Youth Camp!
Meanwhile, over at St. George’s Church in Leadville there will be a special, FREE Tai Chi demonstration next Monday, June 5. Leadville Instructor Elaine Waters and some of her students will be performing Tai Chi, Push Hands, Tai Chi sword at 7 p.m. at St. George’s Church located at 200 W 4th Street. Remember, if this demonstration peaks your interest, then you can sign up for Beginning Tai Chi, starting June 12 from 7 – 8 p.m.
Later this month is the Annual Leadville Jewish Cemetery Clean Up Weekend, this year on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25. Now in its 21st year, this cleanup helps to beautify the resting places of the dearly departed laid to rest in the beautiful Jewish Cemetery adjacent to the Evergreen cemetery in Leadville. There is an entire weekend of events planned, featuring Shabbat Morning service led by Rabbi Sara Gilbert. This event has become an annual pilgrimage for many from the front range Jewish Community.
