Good Times: The Lead Vegas Weekend Report
By Ted B.K. Halley, Leadville Today Contributor
It’s the last weekend in July, so if you haven’t gotten out and had some top-tappin, hand-smackin’ fun yet, you’d better get after it! And if you’re in Lead Vegas, here’s what you can throw into your party mix!
The historic Pastime Bar & Cafe has a double-header Karaoke extravaganza this weekend. Things kick off tonight, so brush up on your go-to song, grab your back-up singers and head down to Leadville’s former Red Light District for some good olde-fashioned Friday night fun! The sing-a-long starts at 9 p.m. with plenty of drink specials to be had.
Then on Saturday, July 29 starting at 9:30 p.m. you can return to the scene of good times and try your pipes singing along with a live band: The Karaoke Kings. Roots Rx is huddling up with the Pastime to bring you an evening that’s guaranteed to be talked about for days…especially if you’re off-key! The Pastime is located at 120. W. 2nd Street and is one of the coolest historic bars in town. They have some great BBQ grub, so make a day or night of it and add on dinner or lunch from their patio!
Once the sun sets on historic Harrison Avenue, the fun meters goes up on good old Lead Vegas. That’s right the neon lights shine bright on Leadville’s main drag, especially on the corner of E. 4th Street. Saturday night, The Scarlet Bar will host Backyard Berserker from over the pass in Alma. So if you’re looking for some of the “biggest, tastiest jams and psychedelic sounds,” you’ll find it here starting at 10 p.m.
Out at Ski Cooper, north of Leadville, the crews continue with their Fridays on the Mountain Series. Tonight, July 28 they’ll have BBQ & Country Music. The menu includes Beef Brisket, Smoked Chicken, Cabbage & Kale Coleslaw, Apple & Cherry Pie & More! Country music from Ned Warner & Junkyard Jason on harmonica. $24/adult, $10/child. There will be movies for the kids in the Children’s Center & you are free to take a hike around the mountain & take in the views. Call 800.707.6114 for reservations or make them online. The cost is $24 Adults, $10 Children under 12.
On Saturday night (7-11 p.m.) and then again on Sunday (10 a.m.) morning, July 30, Many Mountains performance can be found at Wilde’s Green Hour located at 313 Harrison in fabulous downtown Lead Vegas. Many Mountains is a Folk Rock group from the Front Range of Colorado. Their music tells stories of hard truths, self contemplation, and a longing to shed light on the unknown.
No matter what you do, or whererthe unknown may lead you, make it a good one. There should be plenty of extra dancers and partiers in town with the LRS Stage Race and the hundreds of Jeepers that will start showing up for next week’s Rally. You might even see some Land Rover Rally hang-oners from this week! Ain’t no better place to party than at 10,200 feet. But do it responsibility and share you pictures on the Leadville Today Facebook Page.
Ted “B.K.” Halley lives in a hovel on the East Side, growing tired of all the #MarshmallowFluff and looking for some #HardRockMiners.
