Sound the Alarm: FREE Smoke Detectors Sept. 23
The Leadville/Lake County Fire Rescue (LLCFR) in partnership with the American Red Cross is offering a FREE smoke detector as part of the Home Fire Campaign. The next community “installation” event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23.

The Red Cross Home Fire Campaign aims to reduce death and injury by installing free smoke alarms for those who need them. Did you know?
- You have as little as two minutes to safely escape a burning home
- On average, seven people die every day in the United States from a home fire
- A working smoke alarm can cut the risk of death from a home fire in half
To help save lives, the Red Cross and the LLCFR are installing free smoke alarms in homes that need them on Saturday, Sept. 23. Residents throughout Lake County can get free smoke alarms in their home by calling (719) 486-2990. There are no more excuses! Call to set up your appointment – it’s FREE!
“Fill The Boot” for MDA in Leadville Today
The Leadville Professional Firefighters Union, local #869 will be out collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) “Fill The Boot” Campaign held annually on Labor Day Weekend. You’ll find the local crew from the Leadville/Lake County Fire Rescue out on the corner of 6th and historic Harrison Avenue in Leadville Today – Sunday, and again on Monday, Sept. 3 & 4, , from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Please have those bills (and coins – every bit helps!) ready to toss into the firefighter’s big black boot. All proceeds benefit MDA.

The Leadville/Lake County Fire Rescue will be out this Sunday and Monday – help them “Fill The Boot!” to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
