We ? Lead Vegas, You Will Too!
Greetings from Lead Vegas where the seasons are battling it out; hopefully autumn sees a comeback, but it could be an iffy weekend. So why not head indoors to view other battles?
Battle of the voices can be found tonight at Leadville’s historic Pastime bar’s Karaoke Friday Nights. Come, pick your go-to song and then throw it down like your life depended on it. They’ve also got a great menu and will be serving up some delicious comfort food on these cool fall nights. Tonight’s special is meatloaf and mashed potatoes, while it lasts. Karaoke starts at 9 p.m at The Pastime Bar 120 W. 2nd Street.
If you’re looking for a great Friday Happy Hour then have your taste buds battle it out with some good tequila down at The Grill. Their Friday Happy Hour draws quite a crowd and with the pending forecast of cold and snow showers, you could just find yourself with the rest of the cool kids from 4 – 6 p.m. The Grill has been serving fine Mexican Food since 1965, but it’s those tasty margaritas that bartender Miles serves up that keeps people coming back. Ask about their happy hour specials on margaritas and tacos! Ole! The Grill is located at 715 Elm Street in Leadville.
If “Battle”star Galactica is more your taste, then be sure to catch tonight’s special program by Dr. Joel Sercel, Founder and CEO of TransAstra. “Space: The Next Frontier in Mining!” The program will be presented at the Lake County High School Auditorium, starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is FREE.
This presentation describes TransAstra’s aim to be the first to mine water in space, paving the way for further exploration beyond Earth’s atmosphere. With Dr. Sercel’s patent-pending invention, Optical Mining, he and TransAstra hope to extract ingredients for rocket propellant from asteroids, making ordinary asteroid functional gas stations for future explorers, and possibly tourists. Dr. Sercel is a former NASA rocket scientist and technological innovator, exploring the future of mining. The presentation is free for everyone and proudly presented by the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum.
The cooler temperatures along with possible (snow!) showers could put everyone in the mood for Periodic Brewing’s Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 30. Periodic will have a limited number of 1 Liter Rastal Isar Tankard glass mugs with “first come, first buy availability, ” that you can fill up with some sudsy German craft beer! In addition, German style food will be available, as well as a pretzel making station and photo prop area. And don’t miss out on the popular Steinholding contest at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Feel free to come in your lederhosen and dirndl costumes! Prost!
By the time Sunday rolls around, you’ll be ready to kick back and watch some football. The Scarlet bar on the corner of historic Harrison Avenue and 4th Street has the NFL ticket. They open at 11 a.m. football Sundays, so come and watch the action on their big screen TVs with the locals. Or you can finish up the weekend where you started, and head back down to Leadville’s former red light district and catch The Broncos battle it out with their rivals The Raiders. Kick off is at 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, Oct 1.
It’s definitely going to feel like fall this weekend, so bundle up, round up the gang and make your battle plans for a great weekend in Lead Vegas!
