“Fill The Boot” for MDA in Leadville Today
The Leadville Professional Firefighters Union, local #869 will be out collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) “Fill The Boot” Campaign held annually on Labor Day Weekend. You’ll find the local crew from the Leadville/Lake County Fire Rescue out on the corner of 6th and historic Harrison Avenue in Leadville Today – Sunday, and again on Monday, Sept. 2 & 3, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Please have those bills (and coins – every bit helps!) ready to toss into the firefighter’s big black boot. All proceeds benefit MDA.
“For more than 60 years, our members have been working hard for MDA, filling the boot on behalf of this great charity. They know that what they do truly makes a difference in the lives of so many. Until there is a cure, we plan to continue the partnership,” stated International Association of Firefighters, General President Harold A. Schaitberger
Every boot drive helps families with muscular dystrophy by:
- Funding research for new treatments – Fire fighters have played a major role in funding research for muscular dystrophy and in the last year, three promising new drugs received FDA approval.
- Supporting MDA Care Centers – These centers are held at top hospitals and health care facilities, giving families access to best-in-class doctors and specialists without having to travel long distances.
- Sending kids to MDA Summer Camp – Each year, the money you raise through Fill the Boot helps give more than 3,800 kids a life-changing week at MDA Summer Camp, at no charge to their families.
