Library Cards, K9 Fun Walk & Book Sale
The Lake County Public Library (LCPL) and their Friends have a few exciting events coming up. So mark the calendar if you love to bury your nose in a book, or simply support the institution that keeps lending out free information, knowledge, and entertainment.
This Saturday, Sept. 8, the Annual Karen Lundell Memorial K-9 Fun Walk will take place at 10 a.m. on the Mineral Belt Trail starting at E. 12th Street at the Lake County Animal Shelter. It’s a short walk up the MBT, measuring one mile round-trip. This is a fun, furry-friend event with lots of fun and prizes.
Bring a pooch to accompany you on this walk to raise money and prizes for the LCPL. Don’t have a dog? You can still participate by donating dog-friendly prizes, or by borrowing a dog from the shelter. Register early and save five bucks at LCPL, or sign up the day of the race on Saturday for $15.
The Friends of the Library’s Annual Book Sale will be held in the 6th St. Gym. The Used Book Sale Friends “Members Only” setup and pre-sale is Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The sale opens to the public from noon – 6 p.m. on the 14th, and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15. Books, CDs, and DVDs will sell for 50 cents per pound.
September is National Library Card Signup Month. If you don’t yet have a LCPL card, sign up any day that they’re open. With the end of summer comes a return to their regular hours, so expect the library to be open every day of the week including Sundays.
The library’s After-School program got underway yesterday, September 6 with this year’s focus being on art! The program is geared toward Kindergarten thru 2nd Graders and takes place in the Amax Room of the library from after school until 5 p.m. There is no charge, but children do need to register, which can be found HERE.
Also, patrons should note that the library has put the PAUSE on accepting any new book donations. They love all the contributions, but just don’t have the room at this time.
LCPL and Friends of the Lake County Public Library are always seeking volunteer support for these events. If you are interested in participating or have any questions, email email@example.com, call LCPL at (719) 486-0569, or visit their Facebook page.
