Twin Lakes, Leadville In Film News
It’s always good to see Red Bull in Leadville Today! Whether they are supporting one of their world-class athletes, like the LT100 4x women’s Champion Rebecca Rusch or including Lake County in part two of their “Road Trip USA’ series.
Released late yesterday, Part Two in the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s adventure across America continues through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and ending up on the beautiful sandy beaches of Miami, Florida. While the film has been under wraps for a few months, to say that Twin Lakes makes a cameo would be an understatement. The Twin Lakes General Store never looked so good! The film crew was in town this summer to capture the beauty of Independence Pass, using Highway 82 as its own little race track. Not a bad drive when you’re the only one on the road!
The project was created by Red Bull Media House and renowned automotive director/racer (and RACER magazine co-founder) Jeff Zwart. Zwart has directed over 800 commercials and four seasons of the Nissan GT Academy television show and lent his filming and logistical expertise to bring “Road Trip USA” to life. His racing credentials include U.S. Pro Rally National Class champion, eight-time Pikes Peak International Hill Climb champion, Baja 1000 champion and member of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Hall of Fame.
It’s the second time that Lake County has caught a bit of the spotlight from Red Bull Media House this month. On October 2 in New York City, Leadville Trail 100 four-time, Women’s Champion and Red Bull athlete Rebecca Rusch received an Emmy for her documentary “Blood Road.”
In the award-winning film, Red Bull athlete Rebecca Rusch cycles thousands of kilometers along the Ho Chi Minh Trail through the jungles of Vietnam. The goal is to reach the site where her father, a US Air Force pilot, was shot down in Laos more than 40 years earlier. The feature-length documentary produced by Red Bull Media House was honored by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with the News and Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Graphic Design and Art Direction.
“I never in my life thought I would be on a stage holding an Emmy. It’s like the Olympic medal of documentaries,” Rusch said. “My dad has given me so much, and those gifts just continue. This was an amazing moment and I’m going to continue that momentum to do good and ‘be good.’”
Leadville Today was honored to have been able to show this film exclusively at Hangar One at the Leadville Airport in August 2017, as the LT100 finish line makes a brief cameo in the award-winning film. The local showing raised funds for the Lake County Veterans Memorial, where Rusch’s father’s name is proudly displayed along with other heroes.
So what’s next for Red Bull and Leadville? Who knows, but stay tuned to Leadville Today to bring you all the latest film news.
